Description:
Finally, new music from Sweeping Death! "Devotion to the Absurd Night" marks their fourth release and their second full-length album. Following the release of the "Tristesse" EP in 2021, it quickly became clear that the next release had to be a full album again. The band consciously took their time, gathering ideas over the last few years to create a cohesive body of work.
The album consists of 10 tracks that explore the most diverse facets of human existence. In typical Sweeping Death fashion, philosophical concepts, such as Albert Camus’ "The Myth of Sisyphus," are interwoven with personal experiences from recent years—from depression and panic attacks to overcoming them and the resulting new perspective on life. Without being preachy, Sweeping Death presents an authentic musical work that unites a wide range of influences. The central message is clear: through devotion, we can overcome any summit. Musically, Sweeping Death combines a homage to the old masters with the courage to break new ground. For the first time, black metal influences run consistently throughout the entire album. Thus, "Devotion To The Absurd Night" is a standalone work, shaped by both the first EP "Astoria" and the last album "In Lucid"—a logical progression from "Tristesse," yet at the same time the beginning of a new chapter in the band's history: darker, tighter, and more profound.
The impressive artwork is by Travis Smith, who has already created visual masterpieces for bands like Opeth and Death. It perfectly reflects the concept of the absurd and visually highlights the musical vision of "Devotion to the Absurd Night."
